Join us for the fourth annual FSCONS, a meeting place for social change, focused on the future of free software and free society. Open discussion and brainstorming are two of the primary factors that pave the way for change. In FSCONS, we seek to engage, inform, sometimes provoke, and always motivate social change through these discussions.

Brit Stakston from JMW, is coming to speak at FSCONS about The Ghosts of Social Media. Brit is the main author of the Swedish book Politik 2.0, covering the intersection of traditional politics with digital communication. In her FSCONS presentation, Brit will discuss ghost writing in the context of social media, and explore the consequences of turning followers into active beacons of political messages through social media.

The Midgard Project is coming to FSCONS. They will organise a Midgard Gathering from the 4th to 5th of November (the days just before FSCONS, overlapping with the conference program on the Friday). From FSCONS, we'd like to say: welcome here, Midgard!

For more information, check the Midgard community event information page.

FSCONS is organised around a number of central themes. One of the later additions to the themes this year is Extensions, coordinated by Stian Rødven Eide. He explains the extensions theme thus: "From knowledge and art to farming, economics and politics, the ideas of Free Software have inspired many to rethink and improve the common basics for society. This theme explores the plentiful and wonderful forks of the Free Software Philosophy, and their implications for human life."

Neither can we! We're excited to announce the establishment of the FSCONS Participation Grant. The grant program is made possible by the Nordic Cultural Fund and aims to increase the Nordic aspects of the conference by allowing some individuals from countries where FSCONS is not organised to attend the conference at a subsidised rate.

Erik de Bruijn's RepRap

We have a RepRap coming to FSCONS this year! A RepRap is a "low cost open source rapid prototyping system that is capable of producing its own parts and can therefore be replicated easily" (RepRap) -- essentially, a 3D printer that can build its own parts.
