The Maemo platform - or how to commercialize debian
The maemo platform is an operating system for Internet tablets, a type of product invented by Nokia. Maemo is based on debian, a free operating system. What debian offered to Nokia was a way to quickly build an entirely new device and bring it to market. This is a new way to build products, and fundamentally changes the economics of how one builds consumer electronics and it has implications for other industries as well.
