We all know the benefits and limitations of FOSS. How can we apply these to software accessibility tools? Why should there be more FOSS software for people with disabilities? Why are not all accessibility tools FOSS? What can crips give back to the FOSS community?
My master thesis "FOSS för funkisar" was an investigation and exploration of the perceptions of FOSS software among people who work with and/or use accessibility tools. I will use this as a foundation as I reason around these questions. My wish is to challenge the relation between the producer, consumer and financier of accessibility tools. I want to show how FOSS can be used to change the way some of the people who are most dependent of their computers think of open source and free software.
